Nick names

It s fun naming people or rather your close friends. It happened to me too. These are few wierdo nick names that I have. Due my stature people often call me kaddi, skeleton and all. I ve had names like Kareen Kapoor, Kalpana Chawla, Ms. Einstein..... But, there are a few names which marked a difference. It showed the creatuve power my friends had....

1) The first nick name i got, Screw Driver. Ha ha...sounds funny! I was named so when I was in LKG. I used to travel in a school van to my school. I had a very close friend called Joel, who was also of the same age. We used sit together in the same seat. The seat in front would have a handle for the passenger behind to told. And there were two in front of the seat we used to sit in. Once it happened that, we were playing with the handle in front and all of a sudden the driver braked. We tightly held on to the handle and phat..! the handle came off. Joel, who was so frightened that the handle came off shouted to the van driver 'Uncle.... ee handledhu nut blot muddhoythu...' (Uncle! the nut blot of this handle is broken!) and I with all the excitement shouted back at Joel, 'Aey, idhu nut bolt alla...Idhu Screw driver...' (hey, this is not nut bolt. Its screw driver)...Haha ha !!! lol !! From that day on I was called screw driver and Joel was called nut bolt....hahaha!!!

2) The next name i very much remember is Michelle. Michelle was a character in the serial Full House. A friend of mine, Roopambika named me so because she says I had a smile just like that kid..

3) This one is my recent nick name. I was christened Archana Wowtesha, to rhyme with my original name, Archana Venkatesha, by a friend, Hariram, my senior too.. It was so spontaneous and so unexpected. He named me so because I use the word wow a little too often. He said, 'Hey, probably I should be calling you Archana Wowtesha from now on'.... LOL!!! Couldn t stop laughing....

A rather confused experience !

Maine payal hai chankaye......

Ah ! My first hindi song ! Well, it was a memorable experience though.
I don't know a single word in Hindi, but wanted to participate in an altogether Hindi music competition ! I have a friend who is an amazing singer. Her name is Deepika. But, she never used to participate in any competitions. It actually started off by forcing her to participate. But, she never agreed. Finally i got so bugged up that I offered to participate. The competition was scheduled on thursday and i decided i m going particpate on monday! My friend chose a song for me.. She almost instantaneously said 'Glady, u sing something of Falguni Pathak. It will suit your voice' and suggested this song. I had absolutely no idea of what she was saying... I had to learn a completely new song in a compeletely different language! I hadn t heard the song even once nor did i have that song at home! Another friend of mine, Vinutha, offered to get the song fot me...It was tuesday... I got the song and all my friends, Poornima, Krithi, Bhavana, Lakshmi, Ashwini, Divya and many more helped me learn the lyrics. The first time i sang, it was so horrible that i had to close my own ears !!!

Then started the actual parctice session. It was wednesday by the time i got the lyrics. Since i dunno the language, i had accent problem and more important is i did nt know the meaning! It was sounding English ;) !! All the day i used to sit singing n singing. ( even when classes were going on) ! There was a line Oh Sajnaaaa..aa. aa. aaa....which i struggled to get.

I had always been thinking it s going to be a flop..but, who cares! i wanted to sing and that s what i did.

Then came the most awaited day! I was some 15th singer in row. I calmly waited for my turn. So, did my friends (I had frightened them if they do nt clap...that s it. No other go, they had to wait with me)! Then cam my turn. I went up the stage...held the mike...n introduced my self with full confidence. Then i started off...maine payal hai....ah! now comes the turning point. I could see a group of guys stand up and take my pics !!! Gosh ! I was taken aback ! Till then people were so silent, this reaction perplexed me! I was confused at the sudden reaction. I never guessed people would react like that... Then another came completely to front of the stage and even videoed my song! There were many things running at the back of my mind...But, still, i don t care about comments which will pull me down. I never cared. I continued singing....

chale jab yeh puruvayi.....

Oh! i m still confused at the reaction! Still not able to uncover the meaning....

Subhashitha

Su => good, bhashitha => words. Together Subhashitha means 'good words' in Sanskrit. Sanskrit is the language of Gods. It is one of the oldest languages on Earth. Almost all the Indian languages are derived from this language. Their roots lie in Sanskrit. It dates back to 4-5 B.C. As an Indian i feel proud to learn this language. Its one of the most beautiful languages i ve ever learnt. I learnt it as a part of my school and college cirriculum for 5 years and also done a few extra courses too.

Once, a friend of mine(who knew Sanskrit too) asked me 'What is your favourite Subhashitha?' From nowhere i could recollect the verse my Sanskrit Sir used to keep repeating.... I had almost instantaneously liked it. Here i repeat it for you...
विध्यादधाति विनयं
विनयाध्याति पत्रुथ्वं
पत्रुथ्वात दनमापनोती
दनाधर्म ततसुखमं

I wish i could have rewritten that in devagiri script itself. It means
Education brings you wisdom
Wisdom fetches you a good character
Character wins you wealth
With the wealth do some righteous deeds and thus be happy...

Wonderful naa...!! So right and so apt. I m not able to recall the name of the poet who came up with this. But, really, hatt s off to him. Such simple words with such an effective and true meaning in it... I hope to follow these lines everyday....

First time flops !!!

These are a few activities i tried and it flopped at the first time :

1) Playing circket
Mu Ha Ha Ha !!!! I still remember this day and laugh at it... It happened when i was in 2nd std. That is when i played cricket for the first time! I was playing with my cousins and my brother. The game went on for about an hour before i got my turn to bat [ The moment i was waiting for]. I held the bat with all pride and took my position in front of the wickets. My brother was the bowler and one of my cousins was the wicket keeper. I stood with my bat in position... My brother takes a long run and throws the ball at top speed... Glady takes a keen look at the ball and waits to hit it..... The ball approaches and Glady swings her bat with all the force...oops !!! The momentum of the bat to too much for Glady to withstand, the bat pulls Glady along !!! lol !!! Galdy turns along with the bat 270 degrees ...and dhaaad.. the bat hits her cousin....Soooo saad, my cousin s teeth broke and more sad is she was younger than me !!! paapa.... It was such a horrifying experience and i vowed i m not going back to cricket again.....

2) Playing volley ball
Another frightening experience ! I was in 7th when i played volley ball for the first time... I m not a very physicially strong person. If i hit the ball it wouldn t cross the net !! So, my great friends made me stand in the defenders position !! Oh! my God !! I was so dumb that i agreed to stand there. It was the first hit/throw... The ball came directly to my face.. I did nt know what to do nor did i know how to hit... I jumped from that place and somehow escaped the ball. Now, it was second throw... n again i was standing helpless.... With all the determination i strengthened my hand and planed to hit.. that was when a friend thought of coming to my rescue.. She came running to hit the ball and i was ready too... Damar !! Both of us hit each other and the ball flies another direction.... I fell big time... Broke my braces ( i had them for 4 yrs) and had brusies on my elbow and my knee, bumped my head to the ground too....aah !!! I couldn t move my hand for the next 1 week.... What a ghastly experience !! And as ever, i did nt get back to that game again.....

Many more to come......

My first love !

Yeah! It s about my first love, i.e., music..... I m kinda crazy about music. Be it Bryan Adam or GNR to BSB to Balamurali Krishna, i listen to all forms of music. I had always wanted to be a singer. I m not sure when this interest came into me. But, i got a bit too indulged into music when i heard the Pancharatna Kritis of Balamurali Krishna. After about a week one of my aunts found me humming that song. She asked me to sing a song i liked, aloud. That was the first time people at home heard me sing. She said i have a great instinct of a singer and adviced me to learn it foramlly. Until then, i used to sing just for the fun of it. Then i decided 'well, why not give carnatic music a try! Why not learn music formally'. And..... that s what i did... !!! [:)]. I found a teacher, my mum s friend and i started classes !!! [ Hip-hip-hurray]... It was one of the most happiest moments of my life. I just still remember that day. Then, i started attending classes twice a week......

Initially i found it a bit difficult to reach all the scale and the swara stayi. But, not to be the least, it came by practice. I used to practice about 30min to an hour a day. My teacher was damn impressed to hear me sing... She was one of the best teachers i ve known. She was patience personified. She wouldn t let me go home until i sang that days lessons perfectly.

It was 2 months i started, when the disaster came. My teacher s husband got a trasfer [:(]... Sad... I had to stop......stop......[I don t believe this.......]. A dream of some 15 years, just implemented and broken [:(].

Nevertheless, i m not going to be depressed. I ll find another teacher and continue again... [ Thumbs-up].....[That s the way to go !]. It was actually my friends who were a great support to me during those time [ Thank u ppl ]. There was paused by music career.... I still remember my teacher telling me 'Dear, don t stop for any reason. If not me, continue with another teacher'....

SA ni da NI da pa Da pa ma PA; PA;

The last line i learn t in my beloved music class...........

I would want to share all my experiences, views and thoughts and this is one of the best ways to do ( this is what my friends have told me). I really need to find out all that i can uncover from here.... hope for a nice experience :)
